bencher
editA senior member of one of the four Inns of Court, formally a Master of the Bench, responsible for the governance and administration of the Inn. Historically, Benchers were drawn from senior barristers, particularly those who had attained professional distinction, and played an important role in discipline and the education of students. Today, Benchers are elected or appointed from distinguished members of the profession, including judges and senior barristers, and continue to govern their Inns.
