Chancellor’s Court

edit

By John Simpson •

A university court traditionally exercising jurisdiction under the authority of its chancellor. At Oxford and Cambridge, university courts historically dealt with disputes and disciplinary matters involving members of the university and enforced university privileges. Their once extensive jurisdiction was progressively reduced, particularly during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the historic Chancellor’s Courts no longer exercise their former judicial functions.
