collector

A person who collects, especially works of art, books, antiquities, or other objects of interest. In East India Company and later British Indian administration, a Collector was an official responsible principally for collecting land revenue within a district, with wider administrative and judicial responsibilities; the office continued under Crown rule after 1858 and remained central to district administration until Indian independence.
