consul-general

A senior consular official who heads a consulate-general, representing their government in a foreign city or defined area. A consul-general oversees consular services, including assistance to citizens, visas and immigration matters, official documentation, and the promotion of commercial and other national interests. Unlike an ambassador, a consul-general is not normally the principal diplomatic representative to the host government.
