FLS

Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, founded in 1788 and named after the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus. Election as an FLS indicated membership of one of Britain’s principal learned societies devoted to natural history and was a recognised distinction among nineteenth-century botanists, zoologists, and other naturalists.
