Goldsmiths’ Company

edit

By John Simpson •

One of the City of London’s ancient livery companies, formally recognised by the Crown in 1180 and granted its first royal charter in 1327. Historically responsible for regulating goldsmiths and testing precious metals, it continues hallmarking through the London Assay Office and supports charitable and educational causes. Membership has long extended beyond practising goldsmiths and others in the precious-metal trades.
