Junior Optime

edit

By John Simpson •

A Cambridge University honours classification denoting a candidate awarded third-class honours in Part II of the Mathematical Tripos, below Wranglers (first class) and Senior Optimes (second class). Until 1909, candidates were publicly ranked in order of merit; thereafter, names were listed alphabetically within each class. The term remains in official use today.
