Pitt Club

By John Simpson •

Any one of numerous British political and social clubs established to commemorate William Pitt the Younger and uphold his political principles. The London club originated in 1793, while many provincial clubs appeared after Pitt’s death in 1806. They commonly held commemorative dinners and attracted Conservative supporters. The Cambridge University Pitt Club, founded in 1835, subsequently became predominantly social.
