Royal levee
editA formal daytime reception held by the sovereign at which (principally) men were presented at court and paid their respects. Royal levees were an important feature of British court life during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They continued under George V and Edward VIII but were discontinued during the reign of George VI; the last was held in 1939. They were not revived after the Second World War.
