Smith’s Prize
editEither of two prestigious Cambridge University prizes founded in 1768 through the bequest of Robert Smith, Master of Trinity College. Awarded annually by examination for distinction in mathematics and natural philosophy, they ranked among Cambridge’s leading mathematical honours. The successful candidates were distinguished as First and Second Smith’s Prizemen. From 1885 the prizes were awarded for mathematical essays rather than examination performance.
