FRAS

Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. The society was founded in 1820 as the Astronomical Society of London and received its royal charter in 1831. FRAS denoted membership of the principal British learned society for astronomy and was a recognised professional and scientific distinction during the nineteenth century.
