Rural Dean

A Church of England clergyman appointed to oversee a rural deanery, a group of neighbouring parishes within an archdeaconry. The rural dean assists the bishop and archdeacon, brings local clergy together, and helps coordinate pastoral and administrative matters. Despite its name, the office also covers urban areas. Medieval in origin, it remains part of the Church’s organisation today.
