Navy agent
editA private financial agent who acted for naval officers, particularly in managing their pay, prize money, pensions, and other financial affairs. In the nineteenth century, Navy agents were an important intermediary between officers and the government, handling payments and financial claims that might otherwise have been difficult to administer from overseas postings. Some firms specialised in this business and acted for large numbers of officers.
