Judicial Committee

The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, established in 1833 to hear appeals to the Crown from courts throughout the British Empire. Composed principally of senior judges and legally qualified Privy Counsellors, it became the highest appellate court for many colonial territories. It remains the final court of appeal for several Commonwealth countries, British Overseas Territories, and Crown Dependencies.
