Athenaeum Club

A private London club founded in 1824 for men distinguished in literature, science, the arts, and public life. Early members included Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, J. M. W. Turner, and Michael Faraday. Its clubhouse opened in 1830 at 107 Pall Mall, where the Club remains. Long associated with intellectual and cultural life, it has an important library. Women have been admitted since 2001.
