Bannatyne Club

A Scottish antiquarian society founded in 1823 by Sir Walter Scott and named after the sixteenth-century Scottish collector George Bannatyne. Its purpose was to publish rare and previously unpublished works illustrating the history, literature, and culture of Scotland, and these works were generally circulated among its members. By the time it was dissolved in 1861 the Club had published one hundred and sixteen volumes.
