Royal Medal

A medal awarded by the Royal Society for distinguished scientific achievement. Established by George IV in 1825, two were normally awarded annually for important contributions to natural knowledge. It became one of the Society’s principal scientific honours, recipients including Michael Faraday, Charles Darwin, Lord Kelvin, and Joseph Dalton Hooker. The Royal Medals continue to be awarded.
