Davy Medal

A Royal Society medal established in 1877 in memory of Sir Humphry Davy, awarded for outstanding discoveries in chemistry. Its first recipient was August Wilhelm von Hofmann. Nineteenth-century recipients included Charles Adolphe Wurtz, Dmitri Mendeleev, and Friedrich August Kekulé. Originally recognising important recent discoveries, it continues to be awarded annually for outstanding work in any branch of chemistry.
