Oppidans

At Eton College, the boys who are not King’s Scholars (Collegers) and who traditionally live in the boarding houses rather than in College. The term derives from the Latin oppidum, meaning “town”, and originally referred to boys who lived in the town of Eton rather than within the College buildings. Oppidans have always formed the majority of Eton’s pupils and remain one of the two principal divisions of the school, alongside the Collegers.
