At Cambridge University, the Caput Senatus was a small governing body comprising the Vice-Chancellor, Doctors of Divinity, Law, and Medicine, and senior Regent and Non-Regent members. It considered proposed University legislation before submission to the Regent House, and any member could veto it. An important part of Cambridge government, the Caput was abolished under the university reforms of 1856.
