Albemarle Club

edit

By John Simpson •

A London gentlemen’s club founded in 1874, occupying premises in Albemarle Street, Mayfair. It was established principally as a social and political club, attracting Conservative and Unionist members, and was regarded as a less exclusive alternative to some older St James’s clubs. The Club later moved to Dover Street. It declined during the twentieth century and ceased to exist as an independent club in 1958, when it amalgamated with the St Stephen’s Club.
