Marlborough Club

edit

By John Simpson •

A fashionable London gentlemen’s club founded in 1868 at 52 Pall Mall, opposite Marlborough House. It was closely associated with the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, and with the social circle surrounding Marlborough House. Its foundation was partly prompted by dissatisfaction with smoking restrictions at other clubs, particularly White’s. In 1945 it amalgamated with the Windham and Orleans Clubs to form the Marlborough-Windham Club, which closed in 1953.
