Cobden Club
editA London political and social club founded in 1866 to promote the free-trade principles associated with Richard Cobden. Unusually, it had no permanent clubhouse, holding meetings and dinners at different venues. More a political and educational society than a conventional gentlemen’s club, it attracted politicians, economists, and businessmen and published extensively in support of free trade. It declined in the twentieth century and closed in the late 1970s.
