edit

By John Simpson •

A scholarship or exhibition awarded by the Goldsmiths’ Company to support a pupil or student in further education. Such awards were made at various schools and universities and appear frequently in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century educational records. An award-holder was described as a Goldsmiths’ Exhibitioner. The precise value, conditions, and institution associated with an exhibition varied over time.
