Ritualist

In nineteenth-century Anglicanism, a supporter, particularly a clergyman, of Ritualism and the revival of forms of worship associated with the Catholic tradition. Ritualists adopted vestments, incense, candles, ceremonial, and Eucharistic practices, provoking strong Protestant opposition and sometimes legal proceedings, notably against Edward King, Bishop of Lincoln, whose case was decided in 1890. The adjective also described such beliefs, practices, or worship.
