Addiscombe Military Seminary

An East India Company military academy at Addiscombe, near Croydon, established in 1809 to train young officers for the Company’s armies in India, particularly in artillery and engineering. Formally the East India Company Military Seminary until 1855, it then became the East India Company Military College, and in 1858 the Royal India Military College. Commonly called Addiscombe Seminary or College, it closed in 1861.
