Clerk of the Fees

A parliamentary official responsible for administering and collecting fees arising from business in the House of Commons, including private bills and other proceedings. Fees historically provided income for parliamentary officers, but nineteenth-century administrative reforms increasingly replaced fee-based remuneration with fixed salaries.
