Peninsular War

The war fought in Spain and Portugal from 1807 to 1814 against French occupation during the Napoleonic Wars. Britain, allied with Portuguese and Spanish forces, sent an army commanded principally by Sir Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington. Major British engagements included Vimeiro, Talavera, Salamanca, and Vitoria. The campaign expelled French forces from the Iberian Peninsula and provided important experience for the British Army.
