Advocate

Someone who advocates, supports, or speaks in favour of a person or thing. In law: a legal representative in court, and especially in Scottish law, a lawyer qualified to appear and argue cases in the higher Scottish courts, comparable to a barrister in the English courts. Advocates must be members of the Faculty of Advocates in order to practise at the Scottish bar.
