Attorney General

The Government’s chief legal adviser and normally a qualified barrister and Member of Parliament. The office has existed for centuries, but during the nineteenth century its holder played an increasingly prominent role in advising ministers, representing the Crown in important legal proceedings, and supervising major public prosecutions.
