Board of Control

Formally the Board of Commissioners for the Affairs of India, established by Pitt’s India Act 1784 to supervise the East India Company’s government of its Indian territories. It formed part of the system of dual control, directing the Company’s political, military, revenue, and administrative affairs while the Company retained its corporate organisation. The Board was abolished in 1858, when government of India passed to the Crown.
