At Oxford and Cambridge, admission to a degree on the basis of an equivalent degree already obtained at another university, without taking the university’s normal examinations. The term therefore commonly corresponds to ad eundem. At Cambridge, however, incorporation could also provide the degree status required for eligibility for certain higher doctorates, for which a candidate could submit a substantial body of published work demonstrating distinction in scholarship.
