Chancellor’s Classical Medal

edit

By John Simpson •

One of two annual gold medals at the University of Cambridge for outstanding achievement in classical learning. Established by the Duke of Newcastle, then Chancellor, in 1751, they were awarded following examination and became prestigious University distinctions. The Chancellor’s Classical Medals were distinct from the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for English Poetry, established in 1813.
