Chancellor’s Medallist

edit

By John Simpson •

A recipient of a Chancellor’s Medal awarded by a university. At Cambridge, the term particularly referred to recipients of the two annual gold Chancellor’s Medals for classical learning, established in 1751 by the Duke of Newcastle, then Chancellor. Awarded by examination, these were distinct from the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for English Poetry, established in 1813.
