Chancery Court
editA court dealing historically with equity, including trusts, property, wills, and estates, where common-law remedies were inadequate. In England, the Court of Chancery developed from the Lord Chancellor’s jurisdiction. The Judicature Acts of 1873–75 transferred its jurisdiction to the High Court’s Chancery Division. The term may also refer more generally to a court exercising similar equitable jurisdiction.
