Christian Advocate

A Cambridge University office endowed under the will of the Revd John Hulse to defend Christianity against contemporary objections, including atheism and deism. First filled in 1803, it was held by successive Cambridge theologians, who published responses to religious controversy. In 1860 the office was replaced by the Hulsean Professorship of Divinity, later incorporated into the Norris-Hulse Professorship.
