City Carlton Club

edit

By John Simpson •

A London gentlemen’s club founded in 1868 as a Conservative political club serving the City of London. It provided a meeting place for City businessmen and Conservative supporters and promoted Conservative interests in the City. It first occupied 83 King William Street, moving in 1879 to a purpose-built clubhouse at 24–27 St Swithin’s Lane. The club was dissolved in 1940, after its premises were destroyed during the Blitz.
