Copley Medal

The Royal Society’s oldest scientific award, first awarded in 1731 and named after Sir Godfrey Copley. Given for outstanding scientific achievement without restriction to a particular field, it became one of Britain’s most prestigious scientific honours. Recipients have included Michael Faraday, Charles Darwin, Lord Kelvin, and James Clerk Maxwell. It continues to be awarded annually for outstanding scientific research.
