Court of Common Pleas
editOne of England’s three principal common-law courts, alongside King’s Bench and Exchequer, traditionally hearing civil disputes between subjects, particularly concerning property, contracts, and debts. Based at Westminster, it remained a superior court throughout the nineteenth century. Under the Judicature Acts 1873–75, it was absorbed into the new High Court of Justice, ceasing separate existence in 1875
