Croonian lecture

An annual lecture established from the bequest of Mary Croone, widow of physician William Croone, and delivered by the Royal Society and the Royal College of Physicians. Since the eighteenth century these lectures have recognised major contributions to science and medicine. During the nineteenth century they became important occasions for presenting advances in physiology, biology, and medical research to leading scientific audiences.
