cursitor

An officer of the Court of Chancery who prepared and issued certain writs and other legal documents under the Great Seal. Cursitors were assigned to particular districts and were responsible for issuing writs de cursu (“in the ordinary course”). Their offices were abolished as part of the reforms of the Court of Chancery in 1833, although the title and related functions survived in some other jurisdictions, notably the Palatinate of Durham, into the nineteenth century.
