Devonshire Club
editA London gentlemen’s club founded in 1874, originally established as a Liberal political club following the extension of the franchise. It was named for its first chairman, the Duke of Devonshire, a prominent Liberal. The club occupied 50 St James’s Street, the former premises of Crockford’s, throughout its existence. Its political character weakened from the 1880s, and it closed in 1976, when its membership was absorbed by the East India Club.
