Disendowment

edit

By John Simpson •

The removal of property, revenues, or other financial endowments from an established church or other endowed institution. In British political debate, the term was particularly associated with disestablishment: the Irish Church Act 1869, for example, both disestablished and substantially disendowed the Church of Ireland. Disendowment is distinct from disestablishment, although the two may occur together.
