A university distinction denoting First-Class Honours in two subjects or examinations. At Oxford, Sir Robert Peel famously obtained Firsts in Classics and Mathematics in 1808; the term has also been used for Firsts in both Moderations and Finals. At Cambridge, it could denote Firsts in two parts or subjects of the Tripos. A double first signifies exceptional academic achievement.
