Dublin Statistical Society

By John Simpson •

An Irish learned society founded in Dublin in 1847 to promote the study of statistics, economics, and social questions. Modelled partly on similar British statistical societies, it brought together academics, lawyers, administrators, and reformers to discuss subjects including poverty, education, public health, and economic policy. In 1862 it became the Statistical and Social Inquiry Society of Ireland, under which name it continues today.
