Field Game

A distinctive form of football developed at Eton College, played on grass rather than against a wall, as in the Eton Wall Game. Its rules combine features of association and rugby football. Prominent in nineteenth-century school life, it was traditionally played in matches between Collegers and Oppidans. It remains an established Eton sport, rarely played elsewhere.
