Field Game

A form of football developed at Eton College during the nineteenth century and played on a grass field, as distinct from the Eton Wall Game. The Eton Field Game has its own rules, combining elements of association and rugby football, and was traditionally played between the school’s College and Oppidan teams. It was particularly important in nineteenth-century Eton and remains a recognised school sport, although it is less widely known outside the College than the Wall Game.
