First Folio
editThe first collected edition of William Shakespeare’s plays, published in London in 1623, seven years after his death. Prepared by his fellow actors John Heminges and Henry Condell, it contains 36 plays, 18 not previously printed. About 750 copies were probably produced; roughly 150 were known to survive by the late nineteenth century, and more than 230 are known today.
