Founder’s kin

Descendants or other designated relatives of the founder of a college or school who, under its statutes or traditions, enjoyed particular rights or privileges arising from their relationship to the founder. These might include preference in admission, scholarships, exhibitions, or other educational benefits. The term occurs especially in the context of older English educational foundations, whose nineteenth-century administration and admissions could still reflect provisions established by their founders.
