FZS

Fellow of the Zoological Society of London, founded in 1826. The Society established its Zoological Gardens, now London Zoo, in 1828. FZS denoted membership of a leading British organisation devoted to zoology and the study and conservation of animals, and was a recognised distinction among nineteenth-century zoologists and naturalists.
