Great Reform Bill
editThe bill that became the Reform Act 1832, substantially altering parliamentary representation in England and Wales. It abolished many small or ‘rotten’ boroughs, redistributed seats to growing towns and counties, and extended the electorate through revised property qualifications. After prolonged controversy, it received royal assent on 7 June 1832. Further Reform Acts in 1867 and 1884 greatly extended the male electorate.
